Family and friends gathered at Sacred Heart Cathedral Saturday morning to remember Foodlink founder Tom Ferraro.

Ferraro passed away earlier this week at the age of 67.

He started Foodlink (then known as Genesee Valley Regional Food Clearinghouse) in 1983. That year, he helped distribute 620,000 pounds of food.

Throughout his career, Ferraro was recognized for the honorable work he did and was the recipient of a number of awards including the Max and Marian Farash Charitable Foundation's Inaugural Farash Prize for Social Entrepreneurship.

Julia Tedesco, Chief Development & Communications Officer at Foodlink, said earlier this week, “Tom had an unquenchable passion for addressing the societal injustices that kept individuals in poverty and struggling to feed their families.  It was this passion, combined with his deep humility and extraordinary sense of humor that made him an inspirational leader not only to the employees of Foodlink, but to the thousands of people he worked with in our community.  He was a remarkable mentor to us all.”
