Honoring a student-athlete from Irondequoit -- who died suddenly of a bacterial infection. Friday night, News10NBC is very proud to have been part of the Tyler Putnam Awards.

Tyler was 16-years-old when he passed away in 2011 from an infection of the blood that's similar to meningitis.

Tyler's first love was hockey and more than a dozen local hockey players are being honored in Ogden. Our own Nikki Rudd served as emcee, along with former News10NBC anchor -- Rich Funke.

"I'm sure he'd think it's pretty cool," says Tyler's father Lindsay Putnam. "Tyler was a pretty low-key guy off the ice and he cared more about everybody else than he did about himself. If you could ask him what he would think about tonight, I'm sure it would be 'this is pretty cool dad.'"

"It's amazing to see there are more people like him, that have those same great qualities as him," says Shannon, Tyler's sister.
