News10NBC is following the trial of a woman accused of buying the guns used to kill two West Webster firefighters and injure two more on Christmas Eve 2012. Tomasz Kaczowka and Mike Chiapperini died after William Spengler set a fire and began shooting at them once they arrived to the scene.

Dawn Nguyen is accused of buying guns she said were for her, but really police believe she bought them for William Spengler, a convicted felon.

The first witness called Monday was a clerk at Gander Mountain in June 2010, which is when the gun purchase took place. The witness took the stand to better explain a form the prosecution says Nguyen filled out before buying the weapons. The witness said he saw Nguyen filling out the form and says that William Spengler was with her. On cross examination, the witness says while he didn’t see it, the clerk doesn’t know if Spengler didn’t fill out any of the form. A question on the form asks if you are the actual buyer of the weapons listed on the form. According to the form, Nguyen said, ‘yes’ and then signed that she understood if she was lying she would be charged with a felony.

Before testimony got started, another interesting point came up. The judge and attorneys discussed how many first responders could be in the courtroom at a time. The judge said ten and only three of them can sit together at a time. The thought the judge doesn't want is the jury to look out into the crowd and be intimidated.

News10NBC’s Amanda Ciavarri will be following this case. She’ll be back in the courtroom Tuesday morning and will have updates on News10NBC at noon and at 5 and 6 p.m. You can follow Amanda on Twitter at @whec_aciavarri for minute by minute updates.
