A child killer is up for parole for the sixth time. The New York State Department of Corrections say the parole board will meet this week to decide if Eric Smith will be freed or stay behind bars.

Smith was 13-years-old when he killed four-year-old Derrick Robie in the Steuben County town of Savona. Smith strangled Robie and hit him with a rock.

In 1994, Smith was sentenced to nine years to life in prison. Smith will likely learn what the board will decide on Friday.

The last time Smith was up for parole was in 2012. He was denied it because of a concern for public safety.
