WASHINGTON (AP) — The House Ethics Committee says it has extended an investigation of Republican Rep. Steve Stockman of Texas at least until June.

The 67-year-old Stockman is in his second term representing the Houston area and lost a GOP primary for U.S. Senate last month.

The ethics panel declined to reveal details of the investigation on Monday, but Stockman released a statement Friday confirming an ethics inquiry into his campaign finances.

The Houston Chronicle reported last year that two Stockman staffers were fired in October for making prohibited contributions to the campaign. Stockman spokesman Donny Ferguson told the newspaper that Jason Posey and Thomas Dodd had been terminated from Stockman's House office.

Stockman said the mistakes were corrected soon after he became aware of them.
