One high school senior is fighting for her life while another is fighting charges in connection to a serious crash. Investigators believe the 18-year-old driver may have used drugs before getting behind the wheel.

Instead of getting ready for a high school graduation, 17-year-old Solomiya Blekot’s family members are hoping for a recovery. Investigators say she was seriously injured over the weekend when Vincenzo Scaccia crashed his car in Webster Saturday night. Both students attend Webster Schroeder and were just weeks away from graduation. Scaccia has been charged with driving while impaired with drugs and vehicular assault.

News10NBC went back to the scene of the crash Monday and spoke with a man who rushed outside when he heard the crash Saturday night.

Nick Lochner, witness, said, “I hear what sounded like an explosion and I said, ‘I think someone hit the dumpster.’"

Nick Lochner was home when he heard a car crash into a dumpster in front of his house. He says he jumped up and ran out to help.

Lochner said, “The amount of CPR training, nothing will ever prepare you for what I saw that night."

Lochner says he sat with 17-year-old Solomyia Blekot until emergency crews arrived. Police say Blekot suffered serious injuries.  Police say she was in the passenger seat and that side of the car smashed into the dumpster. The driver, 18-year-old Vincenzo Scaccia, is charged with driving while ability impaired by drugs, but police won't say what kind of drugs he was on.

Lochner said, “They took him away right there and that was it. They read him his rights in the street and away he went.”

Both teens are seniors at Webster Schroeder High School. School officials wouldn't comment, but released a statement saying, “Webster Schroeder High School's building crisis team will have counselors on hand today, Monday, April 28, to help students cope with the news of the accident."

Lochner’s family says their thoughts and prayers are with Blekot’s family. Webster Police say investigators are still reconstructing the scene. Scaccia is scheduled to appear in Webster Town Court in May.

An online fundraiser has been set up for Blekot. Click here if you would like to contribute.
