It started out as a 911 call for a disturbance and then a robbery. When police arrived on Champlain Street, they found a man stabbed multiple times. Police say that man has died and now they are on the hunt for a suspect.
Police say the stabbing happened in the 400 block of Champlain Street where a man was found outside of an abandoned house. They say prior to their arrival, they received two 911 calls. One call was for a disturbance and another call was for a robbery.
Captain Tony McCullen, Rochester Police Department, said, “Officers did get on scene and they found a man on the ground at the location behind me. Rochester Fire responded, the victim was transported to Strong Hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.”
Rochester Police investigators are trying to determine what led to the man being stabbed multiple times Tuesday morning on the city's west side.
Captain McCullen said, “It is way too early to identify how this went down, but we have two people telling us there was two people involved in an altercation. One is deceased and one’s location is unknown.”
Rochester Police say the victim was found on the side of the boarded up house. They believe he ran between the houses and collapsed. They are still looking for the suspect.
Captain McCullen said, “So right now, we have our major crimes unit on scene investigating this as a homicide. The other party is outstanding and we have no description to announce at this time."
Rochester Police say the person, who made the 911 call, indicated it was a robbery. Other than that, they don't have much to go on.
Police say they are continuing to interview witnesses and the investigation is ongoing.
