The Rochester Fire Department says it sent crews to the Genesee River near the Lower Falls after someone called saying a man fell in.
The Driving Park Bridge has since reopened and the Rochester Fire Department has suspended its search for a man who somehow ended up in the Genesee River from the Lower Falls area.
The Rochester Fire and Police Departments scuba team responded around 2:00 p.m. Monday. They quickly called for the assistance of the New York State Police helicopter to search by air.
Fire Lieutenant Andrew Lonthair says four people were walking along the Lower Falls when one man somehow ended up in the water. The lieutenant says it is not clear if he jumped in or fell in. They did help the others out of the falls area, but were not immediately able to find the fourth person. The lieutenant says the fire department is frequently called to this area for this kind of rescue. He says, right now, the water is high and moving fast.
The man is 27-years-old and is from Rochester. His name is not being released at this time. No word on when the search will resume.
