The New York State Department of Transportation announced on Tuesday that Mitchell Road bridge will be closed for two days next week for structural repairs.
NYSDOT says the bridge, which crosses over the Erie Canal in Pittsford, is scheduled to close at 7 a.m. on Tuesday, August 19 and Wednesday, August 20 and reopen by 3 p.m. to minimize travel impacts.
They say workers will be making steel repairs on the floor beam system at two locations on the bridge, and the loose grating on the bridge deck will also be tightened to make travel quieter. The repairs come after an inspection earlier in the month found deterioration.
NYSDOT says electronic message boards and detour signs will be posted advising drivers to use Route 31 and Route 96 during the work periods. Drivers are encouraged to consider alternate routes.
