The owner of the Jewelry Lab inside the Mall at Greece Ridge is wondering how mall security did not notice three men -- who were masked -- enter the store and steal nearly $250,000 worth of jewelry.
The three suspects, Qzay Clark, Thomas Pryor and Alexander Kates, are accused of kidnapping the store's manager and his family and eventually got the store keys and security code.
Police say they walked through those mall doors, pilfered the store and got away. No one saw it happening and store owner Mimi Salib has a hard time believing that because she says her security camera shows the men had masks and gloves. "They came and opened the store regular, put in the security code and came to open the case with the key. We have the camera here in the store and it shows them covering their heads."
The three suspects were arrested this week and arraigned in Greece court Wednesday. In a statement, mall officials say the suspects entered the store "under the guise of store employees." The letter says the suspects de-activated the alarm and if it had gone off, it "would have alerted mall security and authorities."
Salib tells us the suspect came in through the front. That means they had to walk down a mall hallway. Salib said, "People come covering their head and gloves and it's not noticeable for the security here to stop these people? That's what's sad about it."
In the statement, the mall says the suspects could have appears as store employees opening up the store early. The statement says -- "this was not a breach of security."
The mall says it did everything according to procedure and that it's cooperating with the investigation.
The suspects pleaded not guilty on Wednesday. They are due in Greece court Monday for a hearing but because the DAs office says the case will already be in front of the Grand Jury, that hearing will probably be cancelled.
