Slaughter recognized by The National Council of Jewish Women

From healthcare to women's rights, congresswoman Louise Slaughter was recognized today for her many accomplishments.

The National Council of Jewish Women honored the congresswoman at the Locust Hill Country Club. Slaughter was given an award for being a strong voice for Upstate New York.

But the congresswoman was quick to share the credit.

"I'm among women who really understand all the issues that we deal with and the genetic discrimination law that we finally got signed this year worked on for 13 years, a lot of it was done in conjunction with Jewish women."

The genetic information nondiscrimination act, which slaughter just mentioned, is being called the first civil rights legislation of the 21st century.
