Lawmakers have agreed on a state budget. It was announced just before midnight.
The budget will keep school funding flat, and it will restore some proposed cuts in health care and higher education, and will increase income tax rates on the rich.
But what you might not have heard of is the bigger bottle law. It will put nickel deposits on bottled water. Right now, you pay five cents on every can or bottle of carbonated drinks, but adding water is expected to bring in $118 million in revenue to the state. Wanda Fish of Henrietta likes the idea.
"I think it would make a difference they could put deposits on the water bottles cause you just bring them here instead of throwing them in the recycling bin."
There are also a few new programs in the state budget. One of them includes $50 million for low-interest college loans for middle class and lower income families.
