SOTA students protest possible teacher cuts
On a night when they were presented with a national award, students at School of the Arts held a silent protest.
With the school board passing a budget that includes teacher cuts, students are afraid their teachers will be the ones to lose their jobs.
They say without those teachers, School of the Arts wouldn't be what it is today.
"I think the reason that this school is considered what it is in the city school district, and considered so highly is because of these teachers and what they do everyday,” said junior Chelsea DeBaise. “I can't imagine what would happen if they continue to be cut.”
The budget still needs to be approved by the city council.
School of the Arts was one of just six schools in the country to win the Signature Schools Enterprise Award.
That award comes with a $5,000 grant.
