Police had a press conference at 10pm Friday night at the Geneva Police Department. They say the bodies of Helen Buchel and her 12-year-old daughter, Brittany Passalacqua, were found Friday afternoon in their apartment at 148 North Main Street in Geneva. Police say both of them died because of knife wounds.
Friday evening, the apartment was surrounded by police cars and concerned neighbors who gathered around the intersection of North Main Street and Lewis Street. Police say they believe Buchel and her daughter were killed late Thursday evening or early Friday morning. They say the suspect, John E. Brown, is also charged with a parole violation. He was convicted of second-degree assault in 2003 and spent three years in prison. Police say he was dating Buchel and that residents should feel safe because this was an isolated case of domestic violence. Chief Frank Pane of the Geneva Police Department says, "I want to assure the citizens of Geneva that it's safe out there and this was a domestic incident. It was not anything that was predetermined." Brown is being held without bail at Ontario County Jail. He is due back at Geneva City Court on Monday at 9am. For more Rochester, NY news, go to our website, www.whec.com.
