Canandaigua Police warn residents of fraudulent calls from water authority

Police in Canandaigua are warning about a new plot that could victimize local homeowners.

Police say sometime in the past few weeks, a Canandaigua resident received a phone call from a person claiming to be the water authority. The caller said they needed to check the resident's water system and that caller requested access to the resident's home.

Police say no public authority would ever just ask for permission to enter a home over the phone.

Any similar incidents should be reported to police.
