nullLet the games begin! The New York State Special Olympics Winter Games kicked off Friday night with an opening ceremony downtown.

The parade of athletes made their way through the Rochester Riverside Convention Center, getting cheers and high-fives along the way from police and college athletes from across our area.

One parent told us that an entrance like this really does a lot for the confidence of these competitors. "It's wonderful, I mean they're so impressed, they try so hard, and they're so proud of themselves, and they're so proud that their families are proud. And it's really very special," says Gloria Sterling.

The winter games continue tomorrow morning with breakfast at 6 a.m. and the first event at 8:30 a.m. The games run through Sunday.

You can find a full list of events on the Special Olympics website.
