Genesee County's assistant manager retires after 40 years

A man who has been working hard for taxpayers in Genesee County since the 70’s is now officially retired.

Assistant County Manager for Genesee County Frank Ciaccia stepped down today after 40 years in local government.

Ciaccia has more than 40 years of experience working in local government. Back in the 70's, he was on the Rochester School Board and from there he became the assistant county manager in Genesee County. He has held that position for the last 20 years but today was his last day on the job. “The past 40 years has just been all wonderful memories especially when you think you've accomplished some things and that's always nice to do.”

Ciaccia has been involved in all kinds of projects over the years including million-dollar expansions and huge development projects.

Other County officials say he will be missed. Genesee County Treasurer Scott German said, ”Frank was very knowledgeable on a lot of things and contributed to the over all well being of the County.”

Ciaccia says many projects were challenging but now the hardest part is saying good bye to friends. “I thought about it and I don't have any regrets. Everything has been great.”

Ciaccia plans to relax and enjoy the outdoors from now on -- a big difference from his fast paced life in Genesee County. “I've been very fortunate. I just hope other people have as good a career in public service as I've had.”

The County has not found a replacement yet. They will be conducting a nationwide search within the next few months.

Ciaccia says he will be just a phone call away if officials need any help with the transition.

As for his plans after retirement – he says he will be hitting the golf course and then plants to teach a public administration class at Buffalo State this fall. He says he has always wanted to teach and he hopes he can help produce future leaders in local government.
