27-year-old Oswego man drowns near Syracuse

Police in Cayuga County say a 27-year-old Oswego man has drowned at Fair Haven State Park in the town of Sterling.

Sheriff's Deputies say Marcos Peralta jumped from the pier into the water with several friends and family members just before 6 p.m. Sunday. Witnesses say Peralta was struggling to keep his head above the water and began to panic. His friends and family attempted to help, but Peralta became unresponsive in the water. He was pulled out and resuscitation efforts were made as he was taken to Oswego Hospital, but he was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police are continuing to investigate the incident.
