Spotify offering free radio service for mobile devices

Make room, Pandora, Slacker and Songza -- Spotify has joined the ranks of companies that offer a free radio service for mobile devices in the U.S.

Until now, Spotify had charged people $10 per month to use the mobile app. But now the service will be free - but like TV and other forms of "free" media, the service comes with audio ads. If you want an ad-free experience, you can pony up for a paid subscription.

The paid version of the service lets you dump the ads and lets you choose what songs you want to hear, instead of listening to whatever the server churns out.
