Two kayakers are okay after having to battle high winds and waves near Newark Island on Sodus Bay on Wednesday.
Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies say they found a 47-year-old Lyons woman in the water hanging onto her kayak, which was nearly submerged. The woman's 18-year-old daughter was in a separate kayak and was able to attach the two together with an elastic cord and was trying to maintain stability in the rough water.
Deputies were able to safely pull the mother aboard the Sheriff's boat and then pulled the daughter from her kayak. Other than being cold, both women were uninjured. Both were wearing life jackets.
