As a result of increasing health care costs, Excellus BlueCross BlueShield is filing for rate adjustments on its community-rated products in the Rochester area.
The proposed rate changes very by product type. HealthyBlue co-pay plans, one of the most commonly held community-rated products, would see changes ranging from nine percent to 11.7-percent. Some community-rated products such as direct-pay HMO and POS plans would see a decrease of 3.4-percent. Other plans would see increases ranging from 6.3 percent for large group HMO to increases ranging from 16.4-percent to 19.9-percent for high-deductible plans.
Medicare Advantage products, such as Medicare Blue Choice, are unaffected by the proposed adjustments.
If approved, the changes would take effect on January 1, 2013.
