Neighbors on Syracuse's north side have been rallying to bring another grocer into a now-closed Wegmans store on Pond Street.
Concerned residents recently posted a video about the store closing on YouTube. People in the video say they're concerned that the area will become a "food desert" is another grocery store doesn't fill the empty Wegmans location.
A local group even held a rally on July 2nd, asking Wegmans to sell the store to another grocer.
Wegmans says that as a policy, it does not sell its stores to other supermarkets. However, the company says it is willing to make an exception, given the lack of grocers on Syracuse's North side.
Wegmans says it is currently accepting business proposals from any interested parties and will continue to accept them until July 11th.
