Lawmakers in California have approved a multi-billion dollar funding package for a high speed rail that would stretch 130 miles from Madera, CA to Bakersfield. The project's funding passed on Friday by a slim margin, 21 to 16 with the vote split by party lines.
The bill had been the subject of some controversy, as opponents criticized the project as impractical and unnecessarily. But supporters argued that this was a needed infrastructure project.
