Canandaigua woman arrested for abandoning two cats

A 40-year-old Canandaigua woman is facing charges after police say she failed to provide care for her two cats.
Police were called to a home on Fort Hill Avenue in Canandaigua on Tuesday afternoon to investigate an animal cruelty report.
Investigators say Rebecca LaFond was renting a room at the home and failed to feed and provide water to two cats that she had confined to the room for nearly 10 days. According to police, the cats were cared for by the landlord when he noticed that LaFond had not been living at the home any longer.
LaFond is charged with agriculture and market violations of overdriving, torturing and injuring animals, failing to provide proper food and drink to impounded animals, failing to provide sustenance and abandonment of an animal.
The animals are now in the care of the of Ontario County Humane Society.
LaFond was arraigned and remanded to the Ontario County Jail in lieu of $1,000 cash bail or $2,000 bond.
