Police: Local officer accidentally shot son

Police are investigating a shooting in the town of Webb near Old Forge, where they say a Perry police officer accidentally shot and killed his own son.

Investigators say 59-year-old Michael Leach, of Rochester, shot and killed his son 37-year-old Matthew Leach, when he returned to their motel room. Police say Leach thought his son was an intruder when he was shot.

Investigators tell us the elder Leach was previously an officer with the Rochester Police Department and currently a part time officer with the Perry Police Department. They also say that his service weapon was used in the shooting.
