nullMonroe County Sheriff's Deputies tell News10NBC they are investigating a fatal crash involving a bicycle, motorcycle and car that happened early Sunday morning in Penfield.

The crash happened on Route 250, around 7:45 a.m.

Sheriff’s deputies say Megan Merkel, 23, of Ontario was driving northbound on Route 250 just south of the Webster line. Her boyfriend, Mark Scerbo II, 22, of Penfield, was riding his motorcycle in the same direction on Route 250. Sheriff's deputies say Scerbo was driving his motorcycle in a reckless manner; speeding up and passing Merkel's car, then slowing down and doing "wheelies".

Sheriff's deputies say Scerbo started to pass Merkel's car on the right shoulder when he struck Heather Boyum, of Perinton, who was riding her bicycle northbound on the right shoulder. Scerbo's motorcycle hit Boyum and she was thrown off of her bike and was run over by Merkel's car.

Merkel was arrested at the scene for DWI. Scerbo is currently at Strong Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. More charges are pending.

Family members tell us Heather Boyum was a triathlete, and a teacher for many years at Fairport High School. She was also a loving mother of two. They say they are devastated by what happened early Sunday morning,

A spokesperson for Fairport High school says they are putting together a crisis management team to assist students and faculty during this difficult time.
