A Greece man was arrested after a standoff with police.
Theodore Arena, 57, of Greece, was charged with unlawful imprisonment, assault, menacing and criminal mischief.
Early Saturday morning, Greece Police received a 911 call where operators could hear Arena tell his wife to call the police and if they show up he would kill her.
Police say Arena’s wife was able to run outside and inform the officers on scene that she was being threatened by her husband who was in possession of a loaded rifle. Police surrounded the home and made contact with Arena. After about 20 minutes, officers were able to talk Arena into coming out of the house and he was taken into custody. He was taken to the Monroe County Jail on $50,000 bail.
While Arena was in custody and the officers were completing a search inside the house, police say one of Arena’s German Sheppard dogs came out from a bedroom and charged at one of the officers. The officer fired one shot, killing the dog. Greece Police Chief Todd Baxter called the shooting justified.
