Horse and buggy accident in Wayne County

Wayne County Sheriff's Deputies say two people were involved in a horse and buggy accident that happened in the town of Galen Wednesday evening.

Deputies say around 5 p.m. an 18-year-old Lyons man and his 76-year-old grandmother were traveling on Lyons-Marengo Road when the horse became spooked and took off uncontrolled. The man was able to jump from the buggy before tipped over, but his grandmother was not able to get out in time. She was dragged in the buggy for several hundred feet down the road before the horse stopped and was secured by neighbors.

The woman was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital to be treated for her injuries.
