Gov. Cuomo signs bills to eliminate inactive local authorities, agencies

On Thursday, Governor Andrew Cuomo signed two bills that will eliminate 28 local public authorities and 95 urban renewal/industrial development agencies that are inactive or no longer needed.
Cuomo said, “Since taking office, my administration has worked to make government more efficient and accountable to taxpayers, including doing more with less and finding ways to reduce the costs facing localities. Given that these authorities and agencies no longer serve the public interest, it only makes sense to do away with them for good. I thank the bill sponsors for their work on these two bills."
The local agencies and authorities eliminated by the laws include:
Hornell Urban Renewal Agency
Village of Penn Yan Renewal Agency
Palmyra Urban Renewal Agency
Newark Urban Renewal Agency
Village of East Rochester Urban Renewal Agency
Village of Hilton Urban Renewal Agency
Village of Lyons Urban Renewal Agency
Village of Geneseo Urban Renewal Agency
Village of Webster Urban Renewal Agency
Both laws take effect in 60 days.
