Former Our Lady of Mercy rectory damaged by fire

A portion of the former Our Lady of Mercy rectory was damaged by fire on Sunday afternoon.

The blaze was reported just after 2.30 p.m by neighbors who said there was heavy smoke in the area. Firefighters had the fire under control in less than 10 minutes after the initial call, Captain Uhrmacher said.

Greece Police say a portion of the building was damaged, but limited to a garage on the southeast corner of the building. However, there was smoke throughout the structure.

The vacant building, part of the former church property school property, is currently for sale.

The incident is under investigation by the Monroe County Fire Bureau and the Greece Police department.
