Is there a shortage of mechanics?

A mechanic shortage is looming.  
 
USA Today is reporting that there is concern over whether there will be enough good mechanics, especially master mechanics, in the next few years.  
 
Mechanics for the future will need to be highly trained technicians, master mechanics who can pinpoint problems and figure out an answer, not just change the oil.  
 
There’s already competition to hire the best and keep them.  
 
Those in the industry are fighting misconceptions about mechanics, saying the jobs are good, plentiful and pay well.
