More Americans using apps during emergencies

More Americans are using mobile apps during emergencies like Hurricane Isaac.

That's according to the Red Cross, which finds mobile apps now tie social media as the fourth most popular way to get information in a crisis behind TV, radio and online news.

More people are also using apps and social media to contact loved ones, let people know they're safe or find out if others are okay and they're sharing and using the information they get to get to safety.

The Red Cross conducted two polls, one on line and one on the phone, surveying more than 2,000 people age 18 or older.
