State Police say they have arrested a man who might be connected to a string of burglaries in Steuben County and they say they caught him because he broke into the house of a police officer.

Jacob Peer, 21 of Corning, is accused of first breaking into the officer's car.

According to troopers, he saw information in the car that indicated the homeowner was a retired trooper and current member of the North Hornell Police Department.

Police say Peer then broke into the house and the officer called 911. News10NBC is told Peer drove away but was later arrested.

He is charged with attempted burglary and investigators are looking into if he's involved in other burglaries in the area.
