The Rochester area had a lot of star power at the Olympics this summer. On Thursday afternoon, Henrik Rummel returned home to Pittsford for the first time since in the summer games and he brought his bronze medal with him.
The Pittsford native has returned to his roots at Pittsford Crew offering advice to the 145 young rowers who compete out of the club.
Rummel received a big welcome home with town officials on hand at the boathouse. Rummel had a successful rowing career at Harvard and spent six of the past eight years representing the United States on the national team.
The summer games were his first Olympics where the men’s four captured bronze. He returned to Pittsford Crew two years ago and feels connected to the place where he got his start as a rower and wanted to share his story of success with the kids.
Rummel was a part of the crew team when he attended Pittsford Mendon High School.
