We couldn't believe what we saw driving around East Avenue and Alexander Street this afternoon. So we had to stop and ask why were three people riding on horseback?

Turns out it's a program called "A Horse's Friend." It's based in Pittsford and for seven years they've taken kids out of the city to teach them how to care for horses, clean their stalls and learn to ride.

"Any kid that's given the opportunity to be out of the city on a regular basis away from some of the street elements and crime that's going on these days, is always something positive," posse member Matthew Doward said.

So what about riding downtown?

"Basically we come into the city every now and then to promote our program," Doward said. "It's easier to show people who we are versus to talk about it, especially when we're dealing with horses."

A Horse's Friend is located at High View Farms in Pittsford.
