nullA number of local ceremonies were held across the area on Tuesday, to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

Firefighters, police officers and Monroe Community College students and faculty came together at the college to pay tribute to the victims.

Three speakers took to the podium, including the school’s current president, former president and a student, who said he did not fully understand the seriousness of the attacks until he was an adult.

A student, Scott Blu said, “As a child, I didn’t understand the gravity of what had happened, nor did I understand the purpose or significance of the moment of silence years after. But that was as a child, and as an adult, staring out into this audience today, I understand what that day meant to the great history of our nation.”

The memorial at MCC remembers all the people killed on 9/11, including more than two dozen victims with ties to our area.
