nullThe American Heart Association honored those in the Rochester area who help their mission to save lives.

The Rochester division held the "Heroes of the Heart" recognition reception at the Lodge at Woodcliff Wednesday evening.

Officials recognized Chestnut Ridge Elemenary in Churchville and French Road Elementary in Brighton. Both hold national titles in the national jump rope for heart event.

Chestnut Ridge also holds a national title for "Hoops for Heart."

Mike Schluter, physical education teacher at Chestnut Ridge says, "this just talks about the dedication and commitment to volunteerism. Their commitment to their own health. Because this is not just about helping the American Heart Association. This is about helping them find ways to stay healthy the rest of their lives."

French Road Elementary's physical education teacher, Rick LaPaglia, says, "We use the example every year about a car. You drive a car, you don't change the oil regularly, you don't take care of it, the car breaks down. An auto you can trade the old one in for a new one. A body you have one chance to take care of it and live as long as you can."

Wednesday's event also honored volunteers, partners and sponsors who support the Association's mission.
