Family and friends gathered to remember an 18-year-old who was shot and killed early Tuesday morning on the city’s north side.

Malcolm McFarland is the city’s 28th homicide victim this year. His family held a vigil at the scene of the shooting Tuesday evening.

Police say just before 12:30a.m. Tuesday morning, Shot Spotter detected gunshots in the area of Flower Street near Joseph Avenue. Police tell News10NBC an officer on route patrol heard the gunshots as well.

The officer found 18-year-old Malcolm McFarland on the sidewalk with a gunshot wound to his upper body. Investigators say they have some information about possible vehicles in the area and suspects, but there have been no arrests.

News10NBC talked with Malcolm’s cousin at the candlelight vigil.

Laquanda Harrington, Malcolm’s cousin, said, “Malcolm was a very young funny kid. That's all he did is keep people laughing especially around his cousins. He was working, he was getting his GED and its just senseless that now he's just gone.”
