The Canandaigua woman accused of faking breast cancer and accepting thousands of dollars in donations couldn't prove to law enforcement that she had cancer.

Melissa Jones was in court Wednesday for a pretrial hearing.

Sergeant Scott Kadien of the Canandaigua Police Department testified that during their investigation in February, Jones told him she had cancer and when he asked her for proof -- such as prescriptions or medicine containers -- she did not provide them.

He said she told him she had recently finished her oral form of chemotherapy and no longer had the container and that she was also taking Vicodin, but someone stole it.

The hearing was recessed until next Thursday. A trial date has not yet been scheduled.
