The campaign to re-elect Congresswoman Louise Slaughter says the National Federation of Independent Business -- a special interest ally of challenger Maggie Brooks -- launched a $330,000 false attack on Slaughter in an attempt to support Brooks’ run for the 25th Congressional District.

“Corrupt local politician Maggie Brooks is buying special interests’ extreme right-wing agenda, and now they’re trying to buy her a seat in Congress,” said Eric Walker, spokesman for the Slaughter campaign. “How disgraceful that Maggie would use a Karl Rove-backed special interest group to launch the same false attack on Louise that Romney and Ryan tried to use on President Obama. Louise Slaughter strengthened Medicare, while Maggie would be a rubber stamp for ending traditional Medicare to pay for more tax cuts for the rich.”

National Republican Congressional Committee responded saying:

“How utterly disingenuous and hollow of Louise Slaughter to cry wolf while an extreme left-wing super PAC is spending more than $250k in ads on her behalf to mislead voters about Maggie Brooks. Louise’s wild and baseless attacks shows her desperation to distract from her own disastrous record that has made New York’s economy worse.  Also remember Slaughter has taken more than $1.9 million in campaign cash from big labor unions and cosponsored legislation to try and take away a worker’s right to a secret ballot in union elections. Talk about “buying a seat.” – NRCC spokesman Nat Sillin
