nullThe original call for police to go to an apartment house at East Avenue and Culver Road was for a suicide. But now, investigators say they're looking at it as a "suspicious" death.

Officers were called to an apartment at 1210 East Avenue, just before 5.30 p.m. for a 47-year-old woman who was found dead by an acquaintance.

The call originally came in as a possible suicide, but investigators say evidence they found has led them to call this death suspicious.

The body was found in one of the apartments on the top floor, three stories above a neighbor's apartment.

The neighbor prefers to remain anonymous. She says, "I was walking my dog, came here and the police and fired trucks were everywhere so I didn't know what was going on."

The neighbor says she doesn't remember hearing anything suspicious from any of the other units.

"No nothing and that's the shock. I've never seen the lady before. so I didn't know who it was. I thought it was someone I met, like one of the ladies here but it was a the lady upstairs," she said.

Rochester police say they're still investigating.

"Based on what we discovered we based it a suspicious death based on the circumstances," Chief James Sheppard said. He says RPD knows the cause of death but won't talk about it yet. "We're still in the investigation phase. Once we know what the medical examiner determines and what the evidence provides us then we'll put that additional information out there for you."

The neighbor says she just moved to Rochester from New Jersey a month and a half ago.

"It's not good. Having just moved here its really scary. I really hope they figure it out and take care of it. I don't want to live near that. I never thought it would be like that," she said.

Right now they are not releasing the name of the victim.
