Cancer is now the leading cause of death in Monroe County and Monday, community leaders came together to change that.
The mission is being called Cancer Mission 2020 and the goal is to end cancer by the end of the decade.
Monday morning, leaders unveiled their plan to make that happen. It focuses on education, prevention, screen and support services.
It's a cause that is close to Gary Mervis's heart. He lost a child to cancer and is the founder of Camp Good Days and Special Times. Mervis is helping lead our community. He said, "If nothing dramatic is done, many people believe by 2016 cancer will be the leading cause of death in America."
