News10NBC got clarification from city hall on a report in the Democrat and Chronicle Tuesday that implies that the City of Rochester could go broke in a few years.
The article talked about Syracuse going broke in three years and said “Rochester could soon follow.” That followed a quote from Mayor Tom Richards saying, “We know there is a problem here.”
A spokesman for the Mayor Richards said, “In no way that the mayor predicts bankruptcy in three or any number of years. The city has been cited on many occasions for being well managed. The mayor has acknowledged the structural problems facing all cities.” The spokesman continued that the Democrat and Chronicle article is incomplete. He said the problem appears to be that the article was written by three contributing writers and ended up inferring something that is incorrect.
