A Fairport mother and teacher was remembered Thursday night at a fundraiser for her children.

Heather Boyum was struck and killed while riding her bike in July. Meagan Merkel and Mark Scerbo are charged with manslaughter and DWI in connection with Boyum's death. Investigators say Scerbo hit Boyum with a motorcycle. Police say moments later, Merkel ran over Boyum with her car.

Friends gathered at Mulconry's Irish Pub for the fundraiser in Boyum's memory. Her husband, Eric, graduated from Fairport in 1992. He says the reunion committee organized the event, which included raffles and t-shirts. The proceeds will go towards the "Heather Boyum Children's Memorial Fund," which will eventually pay for her children's college education.

“[The] kids are doing really well,” Eric Boyum said. “They're being really strong, which makes it easier on me to get through the robotic things like back to school and all that. It's going pretty well.”

A 5K run is also being planned in Heather Boyum's memory. It is scheduled for October 14th, which would have been her 41st birthday.
