Family confirms to News10NBC affiliate: murdered SUNY Brockport student is Alexandra Kogut

Family confirms the murder victim at SUNY Brockport is Alexandra Kogut.

The family confirmed the news to News10NBC's affiliate station, WKTV NEWSChannel 2.

Sheriff's Deputies say Kogut was murdered by her boyfriend, 21-year-old Clayton Whittemore. They sat it happened sometime between 1 and 2 a.m. on Saturday morning.

The family also released this statement: "Alexandra Kogut was a bright, beautiful young woman who was thrilled to be beginning her college education. Her lovely and sweet demeanor was truly infectious and she will forever be missed. Her family is very grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support that they have received from so many friends and neighbors. They ask that their privacy be respected during this time of grief."

Kogut was from New Hartford.
