With October being Domestic Violence Awareness Month, officials from Alternatives for Battered Women held a news conference Wednesday morning along with the Rochester and Monroe County Domestic Violence Consortium.

They are looking to spread the importance of getting help for anyone involved in a domestic violence situation. They also spoke about 18-year-old Alexandra Kogut, who was found murdered inside her dorm room at the College at Brockport. Her boyfriend, Clayton Whittemore, has been charged with murder.

Janis Castrogiovanni, an development assistant at Alternatives for Battered Women, says the entire community is still looking for answers behind this senseless act of violence.

Castrogiovanni said, "The phone lines at Alternatives for Battered Women have been ringing each day with those seeking answers to this senseless situation. Unfortunately there is so much that we don't know."
