People are still shocked by the death of Alexandra Kogut, the 18-year-old murdered at the College at Brockport over the weekend.
The shock spans from Brockport, where Alexandra was a freshman, to her hometown of New Hartford.
That's where scores of people turned out to pay their respects. Family and friends gathered at the funeral home Wednesday afternoon. The line stretched at least a couple blocks, and included 100 students from the College at Brockport.
Kogut's death was discussed at a news conference Wednesday morning by Alternatives for Battered Women. It is National Domestic Violence Awareness month.
Wednesday, ABW gathered with members of the Rochester and Monroe County Domestic Violence Consortium to bring attention to the issue.
"We do know that this was a tragic and senseless loss and our thoughts and prayers go out to Alexandra's family and her friends. We know that domestic violence happens all too often has no age limitations, it has no racial or geographic limitations," says ABW's executive director Janine Lucas.
Lucas says the phones have been ringing non-stop at Alternatives for Battered Women since Kogut's death. That number 232-4353.
Kogut's funeral is scheduled for noon on Thursday at St. John the Evangelist Church in New Hartford.
