With Halloween less than a month away, upstate New York's pumpkin crop is looking healthy.

While many crops withered after a late spring frost and a dry summer, pumpkins have thrived in the Southern Tier.

Maureen Smith of Smithome Farms in Big Flats said pumpkins like drier weather. She told the Star-Gazette of Elmirathey are having an exceptional harvest this year.

Owners of other farms say the pumpkins are big this year.

Last year, heavy floods hurt the pumpkin crop in many parts of New York.
