Flags on state buildings will be flown at half-staff today to honor a local soldier killed in Afghanistan.
Officials say 29 year old Army Sergeant Daniel Metcalfe of Penfield was killed when enemy forces attacked his unit.
In a statement, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo says he extends his sympathy and condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Sergeant Metcalfe.
Metcalfe leaves behind a wife and three children.
Close to two hundred people gathered in Macedon last week to say goodbye to the fallen soldier.
