Re-inventing health care – the Rochester Way. That’s what the Rochester Business Alliance is setting out to do. The RBA asked its members what keeps them up at night and a majority said rising health care costs.

Thursday morning, the Rochester Business Alliances put on a health care conference at the Hyatt Regency Hotel.

There was a panel discussion covering a number of topics including health care planning, employee wellness and even smartphone applications.

According to RBA President Sandy Parker, Rochester experiences 20 to 30-percent lower health care costs compared to other parts of the country.

Danny Wegman, CEO of Wegmans Food Markets, agrees. He was one of the speakers at the conference. He says health care is a major economic driver for our region. ”We do business in six states in the northeast and we are substantially less here than in particular areas like New Jersey or Virginia or elsewhere. We really do have an advantage and it's a good place to do business because of that.”

The overall goal of the conference, sponsored by Excellus BlueCross BlueShield, is to make people more aware of local health care initiatives and to give local employers the tools they need to deliver more effective benefit programs.
